The series chronicling Argentina’s 2024 Copa América victory has premiered—and has already become the most-watched title in the region.
It is a production by CONMEBOL and Offline Sports, released jointly through Disney+ and ESPN. Videos.
One year after the emotional triumph of the Argentine national team over their Colombian counterparts at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, the series “Copa América 2024: The Legacy” premiered, recalling that tournament won by La Scaloneta, which added a new trophy to the successful tenure of the coach born in Pujato. Just 48 hours after its premiere, the series—a production by CONMEBOL and Offline Sports, released jointly through Disney+ and ESPN—became the most watched content in almost the entire region. It is worth noting that this is the first time that the entertainment and sports divisions within The Walt Disney Company ecosystem have collaborated on a single project. According to the producers, “intimacy, legend, and legacy” were the three creative pillars that marked the start of the collaboration between CONMEBOL and Offline Sports.
As soon as the idea was launched, the necessary arrangements were made to begin bringing the documentary to life. It was not just any tournament, since it had been contested by regional football stars who were possibly playing their last official matches. Great figures such as Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María—who ultimately lifted the trophy—as well as James Rodríguez, Luis Suárez, Salomón Rondón, and Paolo Guerrero. In addition to these still-active veterans, the series also features legends like Diego Simeone, Javier Zanetti, and Diego Lugano, and the new stars making headlines around the world—Romero, Álvarez, Martínez, Caicedo, and Pulisic. All of them open their hearts to the camera to share their feelings.
To produce the series, three production units—each equipped with three expert cameras—were deployed for a month across the vast territory of the United States, with the goal of capturing in real time the heartbeat of the tournament both on and off the field. The series not only shows football at its highest intensity, but also delves into its most intimate spaces: closed-door talks, pre-match rituals, the overflowing euphoria of victory, and the heavy silence of defeat.
A different business model
Offline Sports is a premium content studio founded by Gonzalo Arias—an Argentine producer awarded five Martín Fierro prizes for his career in film and television—and Diego Piasek, an executive with more than two decades of experience leading divisions at Hollywood majors such as Paramount and MGM. The company combines Latin American creative sensibility with the scale and efficiency of American production models.
With offices in Los Angeles and Buenos Aires, Offline finances, develops, produces, and distributes content under an agile, flexible, bureaucracy-free structure, where the best idea always prevails, regardless of where it comes from.
Its model is based on direct collaboration with elite athletes, global brands, federations, and sports institutions, as well as with the world’s leading platforms, to bring to life stories that excite, inspire, and leave a mark.
Upcoming projects
After the premiere of “Copa América 2024: The Legacy,” the studio is moving forward in post-production on its next original series in partnership with CONCACAF (the football confederation of the United States, Mexico, Canada, Central America, and the Caribbean): an unprecedented look at the continent’s most challenging tournament, where clubs like Messi’s Inter Miami, Sergio Ramos’s Rayados, Cruz Azul, América, Alajuelense, Whitecaps, and many others face a unique journey ranging from sub-zero temperatures to the Caribbean heat in the group stage.
Offline is also working on a documentary series about the life of Rodrigo De Paul, the world-champion midfielder who plays for Atlético Madrid and is preparing to join Major League Soccer with Inter Miami, where he will reunite with Messi. In addition, the series paints a vibrant portrait of the tide of fans who traveled to North American soil from various countries across the continent to cheer on their national teams.
